There are dozens of offline passwords crackers for most password-protected resources. Those crackers are designed to find weak passwords and let the administrator know how safe his resources really are.
Brutus is a different kind of password cracker. It works online, trying to break telnet, POP3, FTP, HTTP, RAS or IMAP by simply trying to login as a legitimate users. Brutus imitates a real outside attack (unlike other password cracking applications that simulate an internal attack) and thus serves as a valuable security-auditing tool.
Brutus can run in single user mode (trying to break into a single user's account by trying different password combinations) or by trying a list of user/password combinations from a word file. The application scans the host for known services and can be easily customized to break-in any other custom service requiring interactive logon of a username and a password.
Using Brutus will teach you a lot about your system, since it simulates a real attack. To make a good use of Brutus's attack simulation an administrator should that note whether the break-in attempts are logged, and whether a timeout is issued after a few failed logins - this can be easily seen by the progress Brutus is making.

This is done because if you do not know what your doing you can get yourself in trouble or possibly damage your computer.
Otherwise this file is SAFE.
1)Netbus is about 11 years old. and unless you are running Win98(Bigj) you'll be unaffected.
2)You need an IP to connect with Netbus, I doubt someone if going to worry about looking through logs just to find your IP.
3)WinXP sp1 is immune to most back doors(ProRat still works)
4) if your running broadband behind a router it is unlikely to connect unless your private IP is set under DMZ
I've scanned the files and they work just fine. Just extract brutus-aet2.zip into a folder and run brutus.exe
*.*bad files are extentions created by brutus for config settings. a Netbus.bad is included to crack password protected Netbus servers.

I found a way to see if a file is clean. Use an archiving utility (see detailed instructions below) to create a ZIP containing the suspicious file; password-protect it with the password 'virus' and go to this web address> http://www.myetrust.com/Support/VirusSampleForm.aspx
and attach the zip file to this form you haft to fill out at that web address

I am trying to use brutus to hack my home router. Why? Because I am curious to learn how to do it and I don't want to risk getting in trouble hacking someone elses. Also I don't want to cause damage to anyone elses stuff.
I have a copy of brutus and have several of my own password files. My problem is that I don't know how to configure brutus correctly. I just keep getting a timed out error. I am guessing that I will have to use a customized .BAD file, but i could be wrong on that.
If there is anyone out there that could help or at least let me know if i am heading in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

Okee, i've got Brutus (finally, it took me a while) and found out how to operate it. I know the username of an account, as well as the fact that the password is 5 or 6 characters and only constains out of digits.
However, i've got an account of my own there, and if i take my password with it, it still doesn't come out and gives me a sign as in "e;he dude, you've got the pass"e;
Site seems to be plain HTML with a form to log in, also PHP-written from the inside...
what can be going wrong? (he, at least no total rookie asking here, i gave it my best shot!

http brute forcing really is a lame way to do it, everyone knows that using a dos based BF program is better and using it in telnet works even nicer, thats the problem with you script kiddies you dont know what you are doing, i have been doing internet security work for 15 years and this is the first time i have ever come across a load of newbs downloading a program that they think is a virus or some shit...
Brutus - No Viruses on it but yes it does contain spyware/Adware which is why norton/mcafee deletes it
MD Crack - Looks nice and simpe but dont expect anything amazing from it
If you want to know how to do it nice and clean then try changing the cookies its very simple and im sure you can find something out there on google...
or use your brains a bit more try Sex, Love, Mum, God, 1234 (or 4321 etc etc etc) or the name of someone they love, try it backwards. Also try secret, and password and the last 4 digits of their phone number..etc.
most peoples password are simple to guess, if you cant do it that way, learn some C++ or Ada and make your own software to do it

um... guys i dont know about yall but the web at hoobie.net has been workin this whole time, how bout start there...? Also im not so sure about how great bf'ers are nowadays. Most sites require the password to be atleast 6 characters in legnth and include a number. Doing the math on just that is staggering. You would have a better chance of cracking that 256 bt encryption and trying to snoop what goes on. (not that thats likely either).
So... heres my method....
Go to your school (yes school) and find that kid that sits in the back of the class that apparently doesn't exist to most social cliques and seems to make the best grades. Make friends with this person, all chummy like. Then, when several years have past and he/she is working for a respected IT firm, have him/her call the person who knows the person who works at microsoft.
k, now things get fun..
In the dead of night, he/she lets you in the back door. You walk in to find the security cammeras set on a loop back and the alarms down. The cop should be knocked out by the time you arrive at the the security terminal.
Make sure the coast is clear, then dive-roll into the the room where they keep the servers for hotmail. Have a diskett ready with a sniffer that ur chum wrote for you. Install it, and remember to put ur hands over the floppy drive so it doesn't make as much sound when its being read. Have the sniffer sent to a secure computer routed as many times as possible through as many different servers. Then open up your second progie (that your chum also wrote) that will replace the log file at a certain period each day with random info.
viola, at this point just wait a month or two and Ctl+F to find the email and ur in.

Here we have all these yuppies talking about cracking sites and emails. I laughed so hard to read about how people are scared to download a program that they know will be illegal to use for what they want. The funny part about all this is that they have no idea on what they are doing.

If you want to brute force, try AccessDiver or Sentry. (That is what we call "e;Cracking"e;)

OCR.
Decrypting.
I wouldn't even be giving half of these idiots any information at all. Grow up children.
What I will say, though, is that the site address has been working for as long as I can remember. If you have Norton installed, then you will have to tell Norton to allow installation. That.....I will let you people to work out.
If you want to download it elsewhere, then the search deny.de network. There are several sites that have clean versions that allows instant download without Norton getting in the way.

Well a month has passed and there has been no reply to my comments. Perhaps this is the answer that all these beginners need to know.
I will keep an eye on this comment for a further month and if no replies have been written, it would be wise to delete it completely off this site. It is far too dangerous to simply give information to those that only wish to hack into sites and knowing all to well, that they do not know what they are doing.
I have hacked this site and to be honest, there is nothing special in here to warrant any gain.
Other sites, though, will have tracers and logs that can track these idiots down and have them jailed. To be honest, they will deserve every bit of it. As a side note, no changes were made on this site and a true hacker only seeks special information that would better gain his position on the net.
A hacker that destroys, is not a hacker but an idiot.

Every single one of the links posted in the comments section offering a "e;malware free"e;copy of Brutus is in some shape or form, infected with a virus/trojan.
If you really are looking to get a copy of Brutus I suggest looking harder and making sure your getting a malware free version.

The jest of you are pathetic ... if you run across trouble with brutus, then you shouldn't be playing with fire in the first place. This isn't a kids toy - it's a proven cracking tool. With potential to do some damaging effects if left with the wrong hands. Those who want the adults to do the dirty work for you shouldn't own this. Those who are posting their email address for a copy shouldn't own this. That's as low as bitching on blogs for a free premium rapidshare account, I might add.
I am no expert, I can straight out admit that, but I had the decency to at least touch up on the basics before I asked for help.
And as I write this, http://www.hoobie.net/brutus/brutus-download.html is indeed up and running. |

| using a phake brutus that i developed allows you to input as much info as possible to krak the code easier. You limit how much karakters a password has and depending on how much you know, you can cut the cracking time unlimitidly. |

OK, if you want to use brutus to crack some web-based email passwords then use a very good dictionary its fast and will crack that email, my fastest crack attempt is 30 minutes and my longest using a huge dictionary list is 2 weeks i used aragon list and i have a very powerful computer so i can run 2 brutus at a time.. if you try to bruteforce an email password then i think you need to bring your computer to your grave.. thanks and enjoy cracking

Ok, well many people are trying to find out how to use Brutus, but there are some people im sure who know how to use it and are too stupid and lazy to post anything that will help people out there that want to know how to use it... especially the moron who calls himself "e;In the Shadows"e;. "e;I laughed so hard"e; of how stupid this guy is. If this dumbass thinks he knows everything and thinks highly of himself, why doesnt he just tell us or give us a few steps on how to work this program? If you want people to shut up, then give'em something to work with! By telling us this: "e;What I will say, though, is that the site address has been working for as long as I can remember. If you have Norton installed, then you will have to tell Norton to allow installation. That.....I will let you people to work out."e;
Tells me that your an even bigger idiot than i thought you were. BIG FREAKIN DEAL! Sir you really gave us too much information right there, I'm sure thats gonna help me work Brutus right off the bat. You little dweeb/child. Next time be nice and give some real info that people could use.

1. Need to be signed in in this Router - you want to crack Router ADMIN password
Let say you think to crack to Router Password (not a WEP, WAP ect) and you think it is digit like 1234
2. Open the Brutus AET2
3. In TARGET box - write Router IP - 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
4. put sign in box - KeepAlive
5. put sign in box - Singele User
6. User ID - admin not ADMIN
7. Pass Mode - Brute Force
8 Click Range
There open table
1. put sign Digits Only
2. Min Length - 2
Click OK
Click Start
Process will take an hour or two
Now when you know how do too try different passwords, change Digits only for Mixed or something else. Also best try on your Router first.
