In our article Do web anonymizers really work? we described why most privacy enhancement services can be bypassed rather easily. In a nice proof-of-concept demonstration, Ian Goldberg, chief scientist at Zero-Knowledge Systems and Philippe Boucher, quickly cracked the newly announced PrivacyX system. Goldberg and Boucher claim that PrivacyX filters Java applets simply by looking for the word 'Java' in the HTML code. In their demonstration page, they show how this can be easily bypassed.
