The ABC Television network website was defaced on Thursday, by a group of crackers who go by the name 'United Loan Gunmen'.
The group broke into the web server and replaced ABC.com's home page. |

Attacks on news sites are a real threat. Internet news sites are important sources of information, and being vulnerable to attack, this makes them less creditable. Even worse, the Infoseek search engine is suspected to have been cracked as well. According to attrition.org, some searches on Infoseek returned only a message from a person who calls himself 'blitzen'. Infoseek has not yet confirmed this.
Wired magazine reported an intrusion earlier this month, although no web pages were altered. The New York Times suffered a major blow when the magazine's web site was cracked and defaced.
