| GazTek HTTPd is a small and easy to configure HTTP server with CGI support, tested on Linux. It can run as a standalone daemon that can be also can be called by inetd. A security vulnerability in the product allows remote attackers to overflow one of the internal buffers used in the program causing it to execute arbitrary code. |

Vulnerable systems:
GazTek HTTP Daemon version 1.4
A remote attacker can launch a buffer overflow attack and execute arbitrary code on the system with the privileges of the user running GazTek HTTPd which is the user nobody, as all the privileges are dropped out.
Infact in util.c at line 219 we have:
va_start(ap, format); // format it all into temp
vsprintf(temp, format, ap);
va_end(ap);
Exploit:
/*
* GazTek HTTP Daemon v1.4 (ghttpd) Linux x86 remote exploit
* by qitest1 - 17/06/2001
*
* Root privileges are dropped out by the daemon, so a shell owned by
* nobody will be executed.
*
* 0x69.. =)
