MacOS 8.5.1's Web Sharing Denial of Service attack.
17 Dec. 1998
Summary
Macintosh's Web sharing service (that comes in MacOS version 8.5.1) was found vulnerable to a Denial of Service attack, which causes the Web sharing functionality to stop responding to requests.
By sending a specially crafted HTTP request to the MacOS's Web sharing services it is possible to cause it to stop responding. For example:
Telnet to a MacOS Web sharing HTTP service (port 80) and send the following HTTP request "GET aaaaa[...Repeat 4000 times...]aaaaa HTTP/1.0" and press the return key twice, this will cause the Web Sharing service to stop responding.
