Internet Explorer's DirectDraw support can cause a complete crash.
10 Nov. 1998
Summary
A java applet containing a module to support DirectDraw, can cause a system wide crash on Windows 95/98 under Internet Explorer 4 (all versions) and 5 (the latest beta), and a system halt on Windows NT, making it necessary to reboot.
The applet uses illegal call to the DirectDraw functions which causes Internet Explorer to initiate the DirectX support with the wrong set of parameters, causing a system lockup.
